Keep the food simple. Simple mean easy and easy means fast! Salads and sandwiches are just about the easiest foods to make in a bind. Resealable bags are great for food storage and water bottles make the perfect portable beverages.
If you would like to get a little fancy, we recommend trying to pack either soup or some sort of antipasto. These foods are both simple to prepare as well as to store and won't spoil quickly. Left-overs are easy to throw into a tupperware as well! You can even pick up pizza on your way to your destination if you are desperate. Just be sure to include some healthy snacks like sliced fruits or veggies and you are well on your way to picnic fun. Keep in mind that they key to a stress-free picnic menu is choosing foods that you can prepare in a short amount of time without any hassles.
#2 Ask Your Kids to Help
The secret to getting a picnic packed fast is two recruit all hands on deck! Get the kids involved! Have someone mixing the salad, another locating the utensils, and your spouse packing the basket. When everyone helps, the job gets down twice as fast and you will be ready to go in no time!
#3 Be Ready
Has your family been discussing going on a picnic adventure? If so, have a bag pre-prepared. Having a bag pre-prepared allows your family to go on a picnic outing even at a moment's notice. Make sure your basket is packed and ready in an extremely accessible location. Your kids should even be able to reach this bag! We recommend filling an insulated cooler bag with plates, cups, utensils, napkins, and anything else you may need other than food. Adding in a football or Frisbee is a good idea as well. Keep a clean blanket next to your picnic bag at all times! This way, all you need to do is pack your perishable food when it comes time to head out!
#4 Location, Location, Location
A picnic can practically take place anywhere, so feel free to get creative! You do not have to spend hours driving around to find a special picnic spot as it could even be as close as your very own backyard! We recommend scoping out your neighborhood park, nearest pond, or woodland clearing. If possible, you can even take a bike to your picnic location. Or if the weather is not permitting an outdoor picnic, simply have one in your living room!
#5 Be Present in the Moment
The goal of your picnic is to spend time with your family! So be sure to make time for play once the meal is through. Games like 'Duck, Duck, Goose', 'Freeze Tag', or 'Red Rover' are great for getting the whole family involved. It truly doesn't matter what you play as long as your kids get to have a spontaneous adventure together. You'd never guess it but a picnic can be place for creating lifelong memories together. Thus, it matters not what you pack or where you go, as long as you are with your family! Try to leave all electronics home if possible as that is the best way to ensure that the whole entire family is present in the moment.
- Use a wagon to help transport your picnic items.
- Pack a board game or soccer ball for added fun.
- Encourage your kids to use their imagination planning your picnic adventure.
